Naturally, following the assassination or cause to party (depending on which side you belong to), also trending were Islamabad, Dawood, Pakistan and Qasab. Interestingly, a resident of Abbottabadu00a0-- the town where bin Laden was killed, for those who've been heavily drugged these past 24 hoursu00a0-- called Sohaib Athar, who uses the Twitter handle ReallyVirtual, inadvertently live-tweeted the American attack as it started. He mentioned a 'helicopter hovering above' him at 1 am, saying it was a 'rare event' for his town. As it certainly was.
Jack Bauer, main protagonist of American television series 24, also found fame after being credited with the killing of Laden. A surprisingly large number of people expressed the hope of seeing an 'Osama Special' on television soon. Sigh.
In news not related to terrorism, Pawan Hans also got some publicity, none of it good. The firm announced suspension of commercial northeast operations in order to carry our search and rescue operations for Arunachal Pradesh CM Dorjee Khandu, who went missing on April 30 in a company chopper. A certain Sandeep Upadhyay requested the Indian central government, via Twitter, to give all 'scammers and politicians' a Pawan Hans helicopter. One assumes he didn't intend it as a perk.
All said, a busy day for people obsessed with social networking. In the words of RevRunJnr: 'A prince gets married, the bad guy is dead. It's a real Disney weekend here on earth.'
