My NEWS readers say they are positive Slumdog Millionaire will sweep the Academy Awards as well

Four Golden Globe awards and seven Bafta Awards! After winning these top honours, the eyes of not only the makers of Slumdog Millionaire, but Indians across the globe are on the prestigious Academy Awards.

Millions are waiting with bated breath for this award ceremony, which is only two days away. Never ever have Indians waited for the Oscars with such eagerness. For India, is about to create history.

This is not the first time a Westerner has made a film on on an India subject. Then what is about Slumdog that makes it exceptional?

It's probably the fact that British filmmaker Danny Boyle has depicted the real picture of slums in India with immense sensitivity and dignity through this film.

Slumdog is a film that should be watched by every Indian for there's lot we can learn as we watch the rags to riches story.

Slumdog is special to every Indian and I'm sure it will sweep the Oscars. Here's wishing the crew good luck.

No taxes

While the nation is keeping its fingers crossed and hoping that Slumdog Millionaire sweeps the Oscars, the film should be made tax-free in India. The film is all about hope amidst despair, about the journey from poverty to riches and the fact that there is underlying good in the hearts of most people, though it is mostly hidden deep within layers of greed and selfishness.

This is a must-see film for the masses, who often give up hope and succumb to hopelessness. What makes the film even more important is the sensitivity with which the volatile Mumbai riots have been handled. In fact, never have I seen this issue handled with as much care as in this award-winning film.

It's a matter of pride for every Indian that the book from which the film draws inspiration has been penned by an Indian author Vikas Swarup and that all the main characters of the film are Indian.

Slumdog has won the Golden Globes Awards and the Bafta and is now on its way to bagging the most prestigious Academy Awards and creating history.

India is waiting.
