Just the other day, the Indian cricket team led by stand-in captain Virat Kohli won their fourth successive one-day international series in Zimbabwe. With the 2015 World Cup not very far away, this is indeed good news for the country’s chances of retaining cricket’s biggest ODI prize

However, Indian cricket has been faring disastrously off the field, and interestingly, there’s a stand-in skipper (Jagmohan Dalmiya) here too.

On Sunday, the decks were cleared for elected president

N Srinivasan to return to the big seat after the Board’s two-man panel consisting of retired judges found Indian Premier League franchises Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals not guilty of any wrongdoing. It cannot be claimed that there was universal acceptance to the clean chits and those who disagreed with the panel’s decision were vindicated yesterday when the Bombay High Court disregarded the clearance. This must have caused major embarrassment for the BCCI, who will now have to spend many hours contemplating how to get out of this jar of pickle.

Cricket lovers are in desperate need to hear the truth and witness a clean-up in their much-respected sport.

Will the real culprits be brought to book is a massive question. Probably, the larger question is, when will we reach a stage where we’ll be convinced that what we see on the field is not orchestrated.

The BCCI members will help themselves by showing more intent in getting to the bottom of this ugly pit. They must get their hands dirty first and then think about their votes and posts to prove that fair play has no competitors on the priority list.

To combat the ills of corruption, there will have to be lights, cameras and action. Media-haters within the BCCI will have to brace up for this.
