Elevated decks being built at suburban stations, such as Khar, Kandivli, and several others, can now house major food brand stalls, as the Railways recently cleared a policy allowing the setting up of small stalls of popular brands at railway stations.
The move aims at enhancing the experience of passengers, with Indian Railways approving a new category of station stalls called ‘Premium Brand Catering Outlets’. This adds a fourth category to the Catering Policy 2017. Earlier, stalls were grouped into: tea/biscuit/snack stalls, milk booths and juice and fresh fruit counters.
