Even as you read this, the Pan Bahar vs Pierce Brosnan controversy simmers on, like an action-packed James Bond flick. The manufacturers of Pan Bahar have hit back at Brosnan's claims that he was deceived into advertising a product he did not know about and said there has been no violation of the contract signed by the Hollywood star.

Now Brosnan is demanding that his images be dropped from the ads as he claimed he did not know it was injurious to health. Slammed on Twitterati by fans and at least one prominent city oncologist, the former 007 thought he was endorsing a mouth freshener.

While the company has to still divulge whether they accede to Brosnan's demand of deleting him from advertisement, is he willing to return the money he earned from the endorsement deal? Is he willing to put his money where his mouth (fresh smelling because of Pan Bahar) is? It is only when Brosnan makes a declaration like that, will the public believe he is serious. It is money that will speak the loudest and the debate will continue till the terms of the contract are made public.

Having said that, it is the celebrity's responsibility to fully research a brand he is going to endorse. Today, stars have agents, they have the Internet. A thorough reading and vetting of the fine print is mandatory before signing on the dotted line. One suspects that a seasoned star like Pierce Brosnan would surely do the minimum — read the contract and learn about the product — before agreeing to mouth pan bahar.

It's hard to believe that the man who once played the world's sharpest spy did not even bother to take a look at the tin in his hands during the shoot. Currently, not many are buying Brosnan's protestations unless he signals serious intent by returning the cheque. Your call, 007.
