Police in Mumbai have registered a case against six people, a hospital, a pharma company and a medical supplier for selling fake iron deficiency injections.

A Pune-based pharmaceutical company that manufactures injections for iron deficiency complained to the Food and Drug Administration earlier that “fake injections” were being sold in the market with their brand name. The complaint led to an investigation and the trail has finally ended with the police finding out that a Palghar company has been making these injections. A case has been registered at Malad police station but no arrests have been made, say reports.

The cops now need to weed out these fake injections. They have to robustly track them down and take them out of circulation as these endanger lives. Parallelly, actions against the companies who are complicit and arresting those responsible are imperative.

Fraud and fakes abounded during the peak COVID wave, with several ‘fake’ injections, masks etc being sold. Products were also being sold at five and six times the price to a panicked public. This is the reason why all those associated with the scam need to be found out and blacklisted. There is the possibility that if they have manufactured one fake drug, they can do the same with others too, and that is why action is urgent and important.

The medical fraternity must be alerted so that the network is galvanised to spread the word and warn about the use of these fake injections.

The strictest punishment must be reserved for this crime, as manufacturers and their associates do know that they are risking hundreds of lives with this. Similarly, doctors and medical personnel need to stay vigilant and if they do suspect a problem in products they should go through correct avenues for testing and complaints. Let us shut down the medical racket with speed and absolute will.
