If you were to go by Australia's 135-run victory over Northamptonshire last Sunday in the run-up to tomorrow's crucial third Test at Edgbaston, the visitors' morale should be soaring, but the dismal form of pace spearhead Mitchell Johnson is causing the team grave cause for concern.

In his syndicated newspaper column, captain Ricky Ponting wrote on Sunday: "While it was disappointing the way we started at Lord's (the second Test) I was very encouraged the way we finished.
