Some diverse verses

Rahul Da CunhaAnd so, dear reader it’s been a turbulent week—with Punjab and its colourful cast of characters, the India Premier League and Air India all grabbing the headlines.

Inspired, I decided to write some songs, try my hand at verse and attempt some nifty rhyming!

(Note—I’m only allowed to share one verse, please forgive me, dear reader, I’m under contract with Saavn and Spotify)

Captain Amarinder Had A State (sung to the tune of Old McDonald had a farm)

Captain Amarinder had a state
P-U-N-J-A-B
And in this state he had a clown
S-H-E-R-R-Y
With a sulk sulk here
And much drama there
Here a tantrum, there a turn-around
Everywhere a merry -go-round
Captain Amarinder had a state
P-U-N-J-A-B
And in this state he met some siblings
G-A-N-D-H-I
With a bro-bro here
And a sis-sis there
Here a bro, there a sis
They’ve managed to get everyone pissed pissed
Captain Amarinder had a state
Well, now he doesn’t!
Oh-no-oh-no-oh.

Oh Blah Ad, Oh Weird Ad (Sung to the tune of The Beatles’ Obladi Oblada)

Sachin gives you fundas on mutual funds
Virat Kohli tells you MRF is the best
Dhoni in a strange suit
does a funny dance
And Sehwag sits atop a giant Finolex pipe
O blah ad, oh weird ad
IPL goes on, yeah
IPL life goes on
Shah Rukh gives me BYJU’s gyaan with spectacles on
Ranveer jumps around for Jio Fibre
Varun does a double act that makes no sense
And Pan Masala is the flavour of the month
Oh blah ad, oh weird ad
IPL goes on, ya
Ohoho IPL goes on
And celebrities make their crores
Sweet crores
And celebrities make their crores
But the ads just keep getting blah!

The Colour of Pinkness  (sung by Sanju Samson, captain Rajasthan Royals, to the tune of  Simon & Garfunkel’s The Sound of Silence)

Hello pinkness, my old friend
I have to wear you once again
In truth we look genuinely weird
Even if we sport a black black beard
And the vision, as we come out to field still remains
It’s the colour of pinkness
In restless dreams I bat alone
What to do I’m the RR backbone
But even then
I look like a flamingo with a blueish hue
A velvet cake who’s icing’s blue
And while I retain some dignity
It’s a pity (even though it’s the Pink City)
We wear the colour of pinkness
And in the Sharjah floodlights I saw
Ten thousand masked people, maybe more
People talking without speaking
People hearing without listening
And no one dared disturb the colour of pinkness
No wonder Jos Buttler went back home
Hoping for a uniform coloured red and chrome
To wear pink pyjamas
For the next season I hope and pray
For a jersy at least that’s grey
And not the colour of pinkness.

So, dear reader, I hope you enjoyed these verses. I’m working on several other songs, one of which is called, How Do You Solve A Problem Like Sidhu?
