While his death cast a shadow of uncertainty over the fate of the Adarsh case, shocked members of Kanhaiyalal Gidwani’s family bid him a tearful farewell at the Shivaji Park crematorium yesterday. Gidwani was undergoing treatment at Breach Candy hospital, where he was admitted last Thursday, after suffering a cardiac arrest. Following another mild stroke in the early hours yesterday, Gidwani passed away.u00a0For his kin, news of Gidwani’s death came as a shock, as he had been in good health prior to the cardiac arrest, and had no history of critical illnesses.

Gidwani lived in Bhima Apartments in Worli with his family. After the attack last Thursday, he had responded to treatment and doctors had said that his condition was stable.u00a0His grieving son Amit said, “My father was absolutely fit till Thursday, when he suffered a cardiac arrest. We rushed him to Breach Candy hospital and he had been admitted there since then. Early in the morning today, he suffered another minor attack, following which he breathed his last. I am in shock that a man who did not have a history of any critical illnesses suddenly passed away.”
