They are chasing jobs.

The burgeoning craze of Pink Slip Parties has been imported from the financial centres of the US where fired financiers decided to drown their sorrows and network at the same time to the world.

It's an idea grabbing attention around the world. Japan too played host to its first pink-slip party on Tuesday, aimed squarely at well-paid Tokyo financiers.

Meanwhile, in Toronto, more than 150 people had signed up online for the party, said event organiser Jean Treadwell.

These included over 100 jobseekers from a cross section of industries, 20 recruiters and employment coaches, and friends going along as emotional support.

The organisers said they have been fielding requests to hold the monthly event more frequently. "It's a chance to turn something devastating into something constructive," said one of them.
