Final-year students at Bournemouth University have complained that the computers were being monopolised by people spending too much time on the sites.
The students' union has now decided to display polite notices asking people to consider others and marking certain computers for academic use only.
The university has no restrictions on social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and MySpace.
