As the world awaits China’s threat to the Pacific, especially Taiwan, Japan quietly prepares itself for potential conflict between the United States and China.

One of the USA’s integral allies, hosting the most American troops than any other country, Japan, is planning to build bomb shelters starting next year on remote islands near Taiwan. Japan is aiming to imply the inevitability of a US-China conflict with Taiwan as its key asset. The first bomb shelter will be built on Yonaguni, Japan’s westernmost island, less than 70 miles away from Taiwan.

More bomb shelters are to be built in other nearby islands, including Iriomote, Ishigaki, Tarama, and Miyako, by spring 2028.
