Indian-American Sanjay Mehrotra, who is the chairman, president and chief executive officer (CEO) of United States (US)-based memory-chip maker Micron Technology, has been named among the world’s top-performing executives of 2025 by The Economist. The recognition comes amid a year marked by geopolitical tensions, trade uncertainty, and rapid advances in artificial intelligence (AI).
The Economist assessed chief executives of companies listed on the S&P 1200 index, excluding mainland China and India, ranking them based on shareholder returns relative to their sectors. Executives with less than three years in office were not considered. While many companies struggled to translate AI-driven innovation into sustained profits, Mehrotra’s leadership placed Micron among the top performers, with the company emerging as a key supplier of high-bandwidth memory (HBM), a critical component for AI data centres.
