Throwing caution to the wind, a group of gamers in the Philippines continued sitting at their computers as water levels rose dangerously around them

Surreal footage showing some young video game enthusiasts ignoring the rising water level around them was captured recently at an internet cafe in the town of Cainta in Rizal, which had been heavily battered by typhoon Ying-fa. Despite being half-submerged in muddy flood water with a real risk of being electrocuted, the kids were glued to their monitors, ready to engage in multiplayer matches. It was only when the owner of the cafe realised the danger they were in, that the computers were shut down and the gamers finally left. “We didn’t know the flood water would rise that day, so when I saw them I immediately took action and told them that I have to transfer the equipment to a higher place. After that video, they also stopped and left, and none of us were hurt,” owner Sio Samson said.

Luckily, all of the electricity cables in the shop were above the water level, and the power sockets were located up high, as is common in areas prone to floods, or else this extreme passion for video games could have ended in a tragedy.

Kanye believe this?

A small plastic bag containing air from a Kanye West listening event sold for  $7,600 on eBay

It’s no secret that the Kanye West brand is synonymous with commercial success, but not even that explains how someone can pay almost $8,000 for an empty plastic bag simply because it is in some way related to the popular American artiste.  West recently hosted the much awaited Atlanta DONDA listening event on the Mercedes-Benz stadium in Atlanta, and one fan allegedly lucky enough to be in attendance took the opportunity to make some money out of it. He took a plastic zip-lock bag, labelled it “AIR FROM DONDA DROP LAST ONE OFFICIAL Kanye West–Mercedes-Benz Stadium” on eBay, set the price at $3,330 and waited for the bids to roll in. In the end, one of them managed to snatch it for $7,600 (R5.63 lakh).

Longer days means more oxygen

Researchers in a study in Nature Geoscience theorise that Earth’s slowing rotation, which gradually lengthened days from six hours to 24, was key for the cyanobacteria in making the planet more breathable, by producing oxygen in the earliest form of photosynthesis.

Throwing some shade at you

A video of the primate’s impromptu modelling stint at a zoo in Indonesia currently boasts over 40 million views—and 10 million comments—on TikTok. The clip shows the orangutan  picking up the pair of discarded aviator frames and placing them over her eyes.

Eiderdown feathers are luxury products

People have known for a long time that Eiderdown, the feathers of the Eider polar duck, is one of the warmest natural fibres on the planet. A kilogram of Eiderdown sells for thousands of dollars, as the feathers are only used to make luxury products.

4 lakh bees lived in the wall of a home

A couple who recently purchased a Pennsylvania house said they had to pay $12,000 to have 4,50,000 bees removed from inside the walls. The beekeeper removed three colonies from the walls, which appeared to have been there for 35 years.

Piper no piping, says student who can’t focus

After listening to the music of a bagpiper for eight days straight, student Lily Plummer wrote a letter addressed to the bagpiper and stuck it to a fence in Petersham Park in Sydney where she begged for them to take a break ‘every now and then’. She also drew a picture of a red bagpipe to ensure there was no confusion as to who the message was for.

Spiked and spooked

A young woman’s horrific spiked drink experience is a stark reminder not to depend on the kindness of strangers. Millie Taplin, of Southend-on-Sea, Essex, was rendered “frozen” for nearly four hours after a man at a bar offered her a cocktail. Her mother has shared a video of Taplin’s nightmarish ordeal on her first night out clubbing after she turned 18, a night that ended with her being rushed to a hospital after an apparent drugging.

The Devil’s bath

New Zealand’s Wai-O-Tapu volcanic area offers one of the most eye-catching natural wonders, the Devil’s Bath, a bright green pond full of sulfur-infused stink water. Devil’s Bath gets its colour from a combination of hydrogen sulfide gases and ferrous salts.
