US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping met in person on Thursday in Busan, South Korea, as both countries worked to ease tensions following months of trade disagreements. At the start of their bilateral discussions, Trump welcomed Xi, saying, "An honour to have you with us," setting a positive tone for the high-stakes meeting between the two global powers.

The meeting came a day after Trump delivered a wide-ranging address at a business luncheon on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Gyeongju, where he said he expected to seal a "great deal" with China that would be "good for both countries" and "something very exciting for everybody," Al Jazeera reported.
