Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam, or Dr APJ Kalam as he is more commonly known, was born on October 15, 1931. The aerospace scientist, who was responsible for India’s space programme and missile development efforts, served as the 11th President of India between 2002 to 2007 and was also considered as the ‘People’s President’.
