In a tweet, he said there are many "Hussain Obamas" in the country and the state police will act according to its priorities. The Opposition was quick to hit back at the Assam chief minister. Sarma’s tweet was in response to a journalist’s tweet who posed a question asking if any FIR has been lodged against Obama for hurting religious sentiments. Congress spokesperson and social media head Supriya Shrinate was quick to attack Sarma on his tweet. Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi also reacted to Sarma's tweet. Meanwhile, Nirmala Sitharaman had attacked Obama too, stating that the US had bombed several countries with Muslim majority population and former Commisioner of US Religious Freedom Body said that we should spend more energy on complimenting India than criticizing.
