The Government of Nepal has called for a thorough investigation into the death of a Nepali student at the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The student, a first-year B.Tech Computer Science student from Birgunj, Nepal, was found dead in her hostel room on the evening of Thursday, May 1, 2025. According to police reports, her body was discovered hanging from the ceiling fan around 8:00 pm. Forensic teams were dispatched to the scene, and the case is currently being treated as a suspected suicide. Authorities are awaiting the post-mortem report for confirmation. The incident has sparked serious concern, particularly because it marks the second death of a Nepali student at the university in less than three months. On February 16, Prakriti Lamsal, a third-year B.Tech student from Nepal, was also found dead in her hostel room. Her death led to protests and raised serious questions about the safety and well-being of foreign students on the KIIT campus.
