Natwar Singh passed away on Saturday night at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram, where he had been receiving treatment for a prolonged illness. He was 93 years old. Born in 1931 in Bharatpur, Rajasthan, Singh transitioned from a distinguished diplomatic career to Indian politics. He served as the External Affairs Minister from 2004-2005 under Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, and held various ministerial roles including Union Minister of State for Steel, Mines and Coal, and Agriculture in Rajiv Gandhi's government from 1985-1986. Singh was first elected as an MP from Bharatpur in the 1984 elections, marking his entry into politics from the Indian Foreign Services.
