Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro is signaling a potential shift in relations with the United States, saying he is open to direct talks with President Donald Trump on drug trafficking, oil investment, and migration. In a new interview, Maduro describes the U.S. as a “brother nation” and says American energy companies are welcome to invest in Venezuela’s vast oil reserves, pointing to Chevron as a working example.

The U.S. military has conducted another lethal strike on a suspected drug-trafficking vessel in the eastern Pacific Ocean, killing one person and continuing a months-long campaign of deadly actions at sea. Officials say the strike was carried out under Operation Southern Spear and targeted a “low-profile vessel” allegedly operating along known narcotics routes, part of what the Trump administration says is an effort to disrupt drug smuggling.
