Maharashtra state minister Dhananjay Munde resigned from his position on Tuesday, following the involvement of his close aide, Walmik Karad, in the Beed sarpanch murder case. Munde expressed his strong belief that the accused should face the harshest punishment for the crime. The NCP leader stated that he followed his "inner self" in making the decision to resign. He also mentioned that his health had not been good, and his doctor had recommended immediate treatment. Several political leaders came forward with their reactions to Munde’s resignation. Shiv Sena MP Naresh Mhaske said, "We stand with Santosh Deshmukh`s family. Everyone had tears in their eyes after the photos of Beed sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh`s murder surfaced yesterday. The person behind this should be hanged in public. The accused should be tried in a fast-track court. The police and government will take action against Walmik Karad."On Dhananjay Munde’s resignation, State Environment Minister Pankaja Gopinath Munde stated, "I didn’t have the courage to watch the viral video of Santosh Deshmukh`s murder.
