During a recent session of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah voiced his doubts about External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar’s claim on bringing Pakistan-occupied Kashmir back under Indian control. He asked pointedly whether the central government had ever truly taken steps to reclaim the territory, calling into question the bold assertions made.

On January 6, Jammu and Kashmir`s former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for virtually inaugurating the new Jammu Railway Division. He mentioned that this was a long-awaited demand of the people. Abdullah congratulated the people of Jammu, highlighting that the new railway division would bring benefits not just to Srinagar but also to Jammu. He emphasized that it could boost trade and tourism in the region. Abdullah assured the people of Jammu that the introduction of train services to Srinagar would not harm Jammu. On the contrary, he said, it would bring economic benefits to the area, strengthening the region’s connectivity and overall growth.
