This day marks December 16, 1971, when General Amir Abdullah Niazi, the head of Pakistan’s Armed Forces, surrendered along with 93,000 Pakistani soldiers to the Indian Army and the Mukti Bahini of Bangladesh. This historic event led to the creation of Bangladesh as an independent nation.
