For the first time, Pakistan’s top military officer has publicly acknowledged the Army’s role in the 1999 Kargil War with India. On September 6, Army Chief General Asim Munir admitted that Pakistan lost soldiers in various conflicts, including Kargil, during his Defence Day speech in Rawalpindi. This admission highlights Pakistan’s previously misleading claims about Kashmir and the war. Defense expert Anil Gaur commented that these remarks reveal Pakistan's deceptive narrative and suggested that instead of focusing on competing with India’s military, Pakistan should address the issues facing its own people.
