Iran has rejected a Pakistan-led effort to host ceasefire talks with the United States, refusing to send officials to Islamabad and calling Washington’s demands unacceptable. The proposed 48-hour truce reportedly linked to reopening the Strait of Hormuz has now hit a diplomatic wall, with Tehran insisting on US withdrawal from regional bases and compensation for damages. As mediation stalls, Turkey and Egypt are exploring alternative venues, while Qatar and Istanbul emerge as possible locations to revive negotiations. Meanwhile, claims that Iran sought a ceasefire have been denied by Tehran, further deepening the standoff. With both sides hardening positions, diplomatic momentum is fading and the risk of a prolonged confrontation is growing.

Iran has rejected Pakistan’s claim that Islamabad is hosting or facilitating direct talks between the United States and Tehran. The Iranian Consulate in Mumbai stated clearly that there have been no direct negotiations with Washington and only excessive demands passed through intermediaries. Pakistan had earlier announced that it was ready to host US-Iran peace talks after high-level meetings in Islamabad with Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Turkey. Islamabad also claimed both sides were confident in Pakistan’s mediation role.
