Deadly shooting outside the Islamic Center of San Diego has left three people dead after two teenage gunmen opened fire near the mosque complex in California. Victims included a security guard who police say may have prevented an even deadlier mass shooting inside the mosque. Authorities later found the two suspects dead from apparent self-inflicted gunshot wounds. Investigators are now examining possible anti-Islamic writings recovered from the suspects’ vehicle, while the Federal Bureau of Investigation has joined the investigation into a possible hate crime.

Noted sitar maestro Pt Ravi Shankar has died at the age of 92. Mr Shankar was in California for surgery. Mr Shankar was among India's best known contemporary musicians and played with international stars such as The Beatles.
