The controversy began when Bahujan Vikas Aghadi (BVA) supporters, led by Hitendra Thakur, accused Tawde of distributing ₹5 crore to bribe voters for BVA candidate Rajan Naik. This altercation took place more than 17 hours after the election campaign ended, when BVA activists stormed a hotel and threw cash at Tawde, disrupting a meeting with BJP candidate Naik. Despite claims from BVA, including allegations found in a diary by MLA Kshitij Thakur, no evidence of money distribution was found in Tawde's vehicle. Tawde has now called NCP leader Supriya Sule a liar regarding the allegations.

Shiv Sena President and Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde welcomed the leader at the party office in Thane. Sanjay Nirupam was expelled from Congress on April 03 for indiscipline and anti-party statements. After the expulsion, Nirupam claimed that the disciplinary action against him came following his resignation from the party’s primary membership. The former MP had left the undivided Shiv Sena nearly two decades ago in order to join Congress.

Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal while addressing a conference condemned the BJP for vendetta politics against TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee as he was absent from the meeting due to the ED summon. AAP leader Raghav Chadha also shared information and strategies of the INDIA alliance going forward. PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti added that issues of rising prices will also be taken up in the first joint rally. Meanwhile, the BJP had rebuked the Opposition bloc’s meeting, calling it a get-together of an anti-Hindu coordination committee.
