A violent incident occurred outside Serbia’s parliament in Belgrade when a supporter of President Aleksandar Vucic was shot and a tent set ablaze. Authorities have detained a suspect, a former state security employee, after videos showed him carrying a gasoline can into the tents. President Vucic called the attack a “terrorist act with political motives” and condemned the act as intended to sow panic.

In a litmus test for President Aleksandar Vučić’s administration, thousand of students gathered in Belgrade for anti-government demonstrations reflecting widespread public dissatisfaction and the escalating momentum of anti-corruption protests. The catalyst for this movement was the tragic collapse of the Novi Sad railway station roof in November 2024, which claimed 15 lives—a disaster many attribute to governmental negligence.  This gathering will be followed up by a rally in which students from across Serbia march on foot to the capital protesting against the current government.
