In Amethi, Congress has fielded Kishori Lal Sharma against the sitting MP, Union Minister Smriti Irani. Earlier, there were speculations that Priyanka’s husband Robert Vadra may contest from Amethi. Feroze Gandhi, Indira Gandhi, and Sonia Gandhi represented the Rae Bareli seat in the Lok Sabha. Therefore, it is considered to be a bastion of the Gandhi Family. Sonia Gandhi has been the MP from the constituency since she won the 2006 by-poll. Bharatiya Janata Party has fielded Dinesh Pratap Singh against Rahul Gandhi from Rae Bareli. Congress will contest 17 seats and the Samajwadi Party the remaining 63 seats in the electorally crucial state. Amethi and Rae Bareli Lok Sabha constituencies will vote in the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha elections on May 20.
