China has issued sharp warnings to Washington after the United States approved an $11 billion arms package for Taiwan, one of the largest weapons deals in the island’s history. The sale includes HIMARS rocket systems, howitzers, drones, and anti-tank missiles, all designed to strengthen Taiwan’s ability to deter a potential Chinese invasion through asymmetric warfare.    

Typhoon Fung-wong has unleashed chaos across Taiwan — bringing neck-high floods, record-breaking rainfall, and mass evacuations. Over 8,300 residents have been forced from their homes as torrential rains pounded Yilan and Hualien. The harbour town of Suao recorded 648mm of rain in a single day, flooding over 1,000 homes and leaving residents battling rising waters and mud.
