Azharuddin's son passes away

Ayazuddin, son of former Indian cricket Captain Mohammad Azharuddin, died in hospital today five days after he was critically injured in an accident involving his high-end sports bike.

The 16-year-old youngest son of the cricketer-turned politician succumbed to his injuries this morning at the Apollo Hospitals, Doctors said. Details are awaited.

Ayazuddin battled for life and remained on ventilator support after he sustained critical injuries when the sports bike he was driving skidded off the road at Puppalguda on Outer Ring Road (ORR) here last Sunday.

The budding cricketer remained in a "critical" condition throughout even as tests indicated dysfunction of his brain.

In a medical bulletin issued yesterday, Apollo Hospitals (Central Region) CEO Dr K Hari Prasad said, "Brain function tests conducted on Ayazuddin (in the past few days) indicate brain dysfunction. And his status remains critical."

Ayazuddin's cousin, Ajmal-ur-Rahman (16) who was riding pillion, succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
