Yuzvendra Chahal wasn't aware of any of the Indian batsmen changing their bat size once the new ICC rules kick in or if his team management has made any plans to make some changes to the playing XI given that the Indians are 3-0 ahead in the five-match ODI series going into today's fourth one-day international against Australia.

But ask him how to get Glenn Maxwell out and he's fully clued in. Leggie Chahal is also 3-0 up against the hard-hitting Australian middle order bat and it's a result of some simple planning. "My plan to Maxwell is not to bowl at the stumps. That is his strong area. I tend to bowl outside the off stump and I vary my pace," explained Chahal, adding: "I know that if I can bowl two to three dot balls, he will step out and try to play an aggressive shot. However, in order to beat the batsman, the line and length has to be perfect."

Surely having someone with the thinking abilities and experience of Mahendra Singh Dhoni behind the stumps too helps. As does having close friend Kuldeep Yadav bowling in tandem at times. "I know him (Kuldeep) for a very long time. We have played with each other a lot. If I bowl first, then I tell him that the wicket is providing this kind of assistance.

"If he bowls first, then he tells me that the wicket is offering turn and that this is the right area to bowl to a certain batsman. We also discuss what kind of deliveries to bowl to which batsmen. We always have plans," said Chahal.
