The unseeded Indo-Finnish pair shocked the Australian Open winners 6-4, 4-6, 10-5 to reach the semi-finals of the hardcourt event.
Bopanna and Niemenin saved 12 breakpoints in the match and dropped their serve just once to eke out the memorable win. The match was locked 1-1 before the winners took control of the proceedings in the deciding super-tie breaker to beat the formidable American brothers.
