CK Nayudu Trophy final: Simarjeet's 6-73 has Mumbai U-23 in trouble

Jay Bista's Mumbai U-23 outfit missed an opportunity to dominate Day One of the Col CK Nayudu Trophy final against Delhi at the Mumbai Cricket Association-Bandra-Kurla Complex ground yesterday. Delhi enjoyed the upper hand by ending Day One on 140 for one after bundling out the hosts for 230. Put in to bat, openers Bista (66) and Hardik Tamore (53) started off brilliantly with Mumbai reaching the 100-run mark in the 14th over. However, once the pair returned to the pavilion after putting on 119, the rest of the batsmen played reckless cricket.

Delhi's pacer Simarjeet Singh was the wrecker-in-chief with six for 73. "It was a disappointing day for us after being in a good position. We played a few bad shots, but Simarjeet bowled really well. We have ourselves to blame, but I am sure we can turn things around," Bista told mid-day yesterday. Simarjeet said: "Initially, we tried too hard. Once we realised our mistake, we got the desired results. However, Mumbai have a chance to bounce back." Like their opponents, Delhi started on a positive note with left-hander Anuj Rawat (68 not out) and Hiten Dalal (67) putting on 127 for the opening wicket.
