The Barbados all-rounder clouted two massive sixes off one James Pattinson over on his way to a dynamic 69 after lunch. Brathwaite smashed Pattinson over cover for his first powerful blow before flicking another off his pads for six over backward square leg.
But Pattinson had the last laugh, bowling the hulking all-rounder in his next over. Brathwaite's 69 runs came off 71 balls with seven fours and four sixes and further enhanced his reputation after scoring 59 on his debut during the second Test in Melbourne.
Only 32 minutes of play were possible after lunch before another rain squall forced the players to leave the field for a third time on the second day with a total of just 11.2 overs having been bowled.
When tea was taken with rain continuing to hammer down, the West Indies were 248 for seven with Denesh Ramdin on 30 and Kemar Roach yet to score. The forecast was for further rain later Monday and on Tuesday.
