When his mom wanted Karan Thakur to concentrate on his studies, he did what not many do slip out of the house for hockey practice.

Yesterday, all his troubles paid off as the goalkeeper made a major contribution in helping Our Lady of Dolours claim the Nike-MSSA inter-school hockey tournament for the third consecutive year with a 5-3 win over Don Bosco (Matunga).

After the game was tied 1-1, Karan was the hero in the tie-breaker coming up with fine saves and then scoring the winner from the spot to seal the victory. Karan now hopes his mom would not force him to concentrate only on academics.

"My mom admonished me often when she would find out about me going for practice. I feel really happy after winning this title and hopefully, my mom will also be more understanding now," Karan said.
