A combat vehicle each in the front and rear, escorted the bus carrying the Sri Lankan team. According to senior officials of the Mumbai police, there was a series of meetings to discuss threats and possibilities of a terror attack on cricket teams similar to the one on Mahela Jayawardene's side in Lahore, Pakistan two years ago.

It was after these meetings that the combat vehicles were included as part of the security measures.

In total, there are eight combat vehicles in the city, all of which would be in use to during the transportation of the World Cup teams.

There was also specific instruction on the kind of police officers who would travel in these vehicles.

Accordingly, officers who received commando training would ply in them.

A top police official said: "The security cover is going to be of the same standard for all the teams. The Sri Lankan team was targeted in Pakistan, so we have taken extra precautions for them. Our job would be to take care of all the security arrangements for all teams, whether they are in the hotel or on the move."
