Caesar Gonsalves has made a name as a dance expert in the Indian film industry. While he's brilliant with his dance steps and has made big Bollywood names like Hrithik Roshan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan dance to his steps, he is not bad with his moves on the football field too. Football in fact, is his first love.

He is a keen footballer and a regular for his team, Juhu Sparks in the Mumbai District Football Association Senior Division League.

Mark of passion
He has tattoo of footballs on his legs, and his hairstyle is another indicator of his passion for the beautiful game. He says he has braided his long hair after Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand.

After playing at the inter-school and college level, he represented various MDFA clubs before starting his own club, Juhu Sparks eight years ago. The 36-year-old is the stopper-back, manager and sponsor of the team.

They started in the third division and have gained promotion to the senior division.

Football is a physical, body-contact sport and being a dancer, everyone urges Caesar to give up the sport in order to avoid injuries.

Need to be fit
"I belong to an industry where it is very important to be fit. My hands and legs need to be safe. My wife doesn't want me to play. My partner, Bosco also tells me to stop playing. In fact, he is also a very good player but has given up," said Caesar.

And it's good that his wife and friends do not come for his games. For, once on the field, Caesar throws caution to the wind as he takes his defensive duties a tad too seriously. "It's my passion so I like to give it my 500 per cent," he said. "Moreover, playing football helps my dancing too. I can't be fat and heavy. I need to be smooth, graceful and light on my feet to teach moves. Football is one hour of cardio exercise for me. It has kept me going."

His job is hectic and involves a lot of travel. So how does Caesar find time for his football? "When I am shooting, I miss out on football. But when I am rehearsing, I try to find time to play. I rehearse from 10 am to 7 pm and then train after 8 pm under lights which I have installed at St Joseph's school (Juhu)," said Caesar. So far this season, Caesar has been lucky with his shooting schedule, enabling him to play the full duration of the season's first two games. This dance instructor has made big strides for sure!
