Happy days, it seems, are returning to Caribbean cricket.
First came Trinidad and Tobago's comprehensive victory against Somerset Sabres on Monday to open their Champions League Twenty20 campaign on a high note. And as the sun rose in the City of Nizams yesterday, came in the news that the prolonged stand-off between the top West Indies cricketers and the West Indies Cricket Board was about to be resolved.
To top it all, the Trinidadians ousted Deccan Chargers from the inaugural Champions League with a last-ball, three-run win at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium last night.
No wonder Man of the Match Dwayne Bravo, who bowled a stunning last over in which he conceded just four runs, couldn't stop smiling after the match.
"We are all proud to play for the West Indies. We are all available for the Australia series, and it is good that the dispute has been resolved. All of us are eager to play for the country and looking forward to playing Australia," Bravo said.
"This tournament and these victories will help Caribbean cricket a lot. We have a rich cricketing culture and I hope these wins will attract more youngsters to cricket.
"I hope we can continue with our strong performances in the event.
"Our team is more like a family, and we are enjoying a different culture here."
While the Chargers were forced to pack their bags after their second successive defeat in the tournament, Trinidad and Tobago proceeded to the Super Eights referred to as the league stage with an advantage of already having two points in their kitty.
Trinidad face New South Wales tomorrow and Diamond Eagles on Sunday.
Given their form though, they look the team to beat. Just one win can see them through to the semi-finals.
