Dubai Open fined, Peer compensated

The WTA on Friday announced a 300,000 dollar fine on the Dubai Duty Free Open after Israeli player Shahar Peer was denied a visa by the United Arab Emirates and was unable to play in the women's event. "These actions are also intended to send a clear message that our Tour will not tolerate discrimination of any kind and that we will never allow this situation to happen again, in UAE or elsewhere," WTA chief executive Larry Scott said. Peer has also been given ranking points and prize money to compensate for her losses.
