The ground staff lost their battle to the elements again yesterday. Every time they cleared the water and pulled off the covers, the heavens opened. After a couple of tries, they finally gave up and Day Three was called off at the Green Park here. It was the second successive day that no play was possible in the Duleep Trophy match between India Blue and Green.
With just the final day's play left today, that too if rain relents, there is no way India Green can force an outright win, which they require to pip their rivals to book a berth in the final. Thus, India Blue are all set to advance to the summit clash against India Green.
It has been a frustrating two days for the players as rain has played spoilsport. The players did not come to the ground until the first break when the sun had made a token appearance. With more rain predicted today morning, the match is set to meet a watery grave.
As things stand now, in reply to India Blue's 177, India Green are 100 for three and there is very little time for the latter to pull of a win now.
