Though England were knocked out of the ICC Women's World Cup, the defending champions had something to cheer yesterday after beating New Zealand by 15 runs at Brabourne Stadium
The result of the England-New Zealand match was inconsequential after West Indies stunned Australia earlier in the day at the MIG Club in Bandra. England will take on the Kiwis again on February 15 to battle it out in the third-place play-off.

England rattled up 266-6 against New Zealand, who were restricted to 251-9, despite a superb 103 from Amy Satterthwaite and 79 by skipper Suzie Bates.
For England, Charlotte Edwards scored 54 and Sarah Taylor made 88. Edwards said: “I got the news from one of the Kiwi players that West Indies have won the tie against Australia. I didn’t believe it. Sarah (Taylor) confirmed the news and I was disappointed and didn’t know what I was doing next. It was an anti-climax but we put up a spirited performance.”
