Rain caused the abandonment of the first one-day international between South Africa and England at the Wanderers Stadium (left) yesterday.<br /><br />After more than 20mm of rain on Thursday, steady rain yesterday led to the match being called off two-and-a-half hours after the scheduled start when it became obvious that it would be impossible even to play a shortened game. A minimum of 20 overs a side is necessary for a result to be achieved.
