By the start of next season, Jeff Thomson, the fastest bowler in the world in the 1970s, could be in Mumbai heading a bowling scheme financed by a well known corporate and laced with the blessings of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA).

mid-day learns that a sports management company has sounded out MCA president Sharad Pawar recently on a plan for a bowling scheme similar to the Bombay Cricket Association-Mafatlal Bowling Scheme headed by former England fast bowler Frank Tyson which helped Mumbai regain their hold on the Ranji Trophy after eight unyielding seasons in the 1990s.

Though the sports management company has yet to ink a deal with the former Australian pace terror, they are hoping for something concrete soon with Thomson, who is now in England. And if the MCA joins in, a repeat of a bowling revolution in the city, like in Tyson's scheme, cannot be ruled out.

The MCA has yet to take a decision on the proposal. Thomson's association with Indian cricket was through the 1977-78 series in Australia, where Bishan Singh Bedi's Indians lost to Bob Simpson's depleted team 2-3.
