Former NZ keeper Gareth Hopkins retires

Former New Zealand wicket-keeper batsman Gareth Hopkins has announced that he will retire from all forms of cricket. Hopkins, 37, started his first-class career back in September 1996 when he represented Northern Districts.

Wellington: Former New Zealand wicket-keeper batsman Gareth Hopkins has announced that he will retire from all forms of cricket. Hopkins, 37, started his first-class career back in September 1996 when he represented Northern Districts.


He went on to represent the national side 4 Tests, 25 One Dayers and 10 T20 Internationals, the last of which was an ODI against India at Vadodara in which he made just 6.


Hopkins played a total of 158 first-class games for Northern Districts, Canterbury, Otago and Auckland and has amassed 7550 runs at an average of 36.65 with 17 centuries. He also etched his name in the record books this season after being involved in a New Zealand record 461 dismissals.
