Chris Gayle (150) and Kieran Powell (134) put on the fifth highest stand made by a West Indies opening pair to help them take control against New Zealand on Day Three of the first Test in Antigua yesterday. Gayle was dropped shortly before lunch.
The two carried their side to 245 without loss — 106 runs behind — and they will need another 53 runs to better the Windies’ highest opening wicket stand made by Gordon Greenidge and Desmond Haynes against England in 1990.
