About an hour before the Indian Premier League match between Kings XI Punjab and Royal Challengers Bangalore the weather took a horrible turn and most feared the worst expecting a curtailed game if not a washout.

However, Punjab skipper Adam Gilchrist was confident the rain gods would not play spoilsport. At the post-match press conference Gilchrist said: "Soon after the toss (Laxman) Sivaramakrishnan was surprised that I had chosen to bat and asked me 'what about rain and the possibility of the Duckworth/Lewis method... what about net-run rate coming in to play'. But I just said that let's first go out there and win this one and let everything else take care of itself. '

"I had been observing the clouds quite closely and was confident that rain would stay away. I knew there would be no possibility of a wash-out and thankfully the rains stayed away and we got a full game," said Gilchrist, who slammed a 55-ball 106 studded with eight fours and nine sixes to take the game away from RCB in the very first innings as Punjab totaled 231 for the loss of two wickets. In reply, RCB were bowled out for 121 in just 17 overs.

Punjab however still find themselves in a tricky situation as far as qualification for the play offs is concerned since they are on 14 points with just one game in hand, while Kolkata Knight Riders, also on 14 points, have two matches in hand. Gilchrist though was not worried. "We started the tournament pretty well with back-to-back wins and thereafter there was a bit of a slump and now once again towards the end we have picked up our game with three straight victories. That's the nature of this tournament," added Gilchrist.
