Tendulkar has written that Chappell had offered to help him takeover the captaincy from Rahul Dravid just months before the 2007 World Cup.
The Australian denied this claim on Tuesday saying that he never contemplated Sachin replacing Rahul Dravid as captain. Engineer though felt Chappell should not be believed.
"Chappell categorically denied that he never said that to Tendulkar. But we have to believe the Little Master, as he is our man.
I would call Greg Chappell a liar instead," said Engineer on the sidelines of the release of Christina Pierce's oil paintings on 'The Art of Cricket' at Tao Art Gallery yesterday.
