Hutchison 3G pips British Airways World Cargo for MiD DAY Corporate Soccer Championship title

Hutchison 3G emerged proud winners of the second edition of MiD DAY Corporate Soccer Championships after beating British Airways World Cargo 1-0 in a fiercely contested final yesterday. The two-day event played over the weekend was held at the Parsi Gymkhana, Dadar, which saw 28 corporate teams vying for the Rs 100,000 cash prize.

Nigel D'Souza of British Airways World Cargo hit a beautiful volley in the fifth minute, only to be denied by the woodwork. Hutchison 3G, who mostly played defensively in the first half, regrouped themselves for the remaining half of the play.

Decisive goal
With five minutes left before the final whistle, Sheldon Benny of Hutchison 3G passed the ball to Cloudious Fernandes on the left flank, who scored the decisive goal by chipping it over the goalkeeper. However, there was something to cheer for British Airways after Nigel D'Souza, who scored 10 goals in the tournament, won the Golden Boot award of Rs 25, 000.

HDFC shocked
Defending champions, HDFC Bank were knocked out in the quarter-final by Online Tourism in the tie-breaker. Online Tourism won 5-4 after both teams were locked at 1-1 in full time. However, Online Tourism's dream run soon ended when they lost to eventual champions Hutchison 3G 1-0 in the semi-final. The winners were presented awards by Bollywoodu00a0 stars Shreyas Talpade, Pia Trivedi, and director Sagar Ballary.
