I made too many errors: Saina Nehwal

Saina Nehwal crashed out of the singles event even as Jwala Gutta continued to weave magic, notching up victories in doubles and mixed doubles to keep the tricolour flying in the Yonex Sunrise Indian Open yesterday.

Second-seeded Saina suffered a shock defeat to lower-ranked Malaysian Julia Pei Xian Wong 21-12, 13-21, 18-21 in the quarter-finals to bring the curtain down on India's campaign in the singles event.

u00a0"I started off well but I lost it on the way. In the second and third games I committed a lot of errors. I scored points in between, came back in the match but she was playing too well," said Saina. "I was also not playing well from the net and I made some judgemental errors," a disappointed Saina said told PTI.

Earlier, national champion Arvind Bhat lost to tournament favourite Taufik Hidayat.

"I was surprised to see his strong, sharp and crisp strokes. I couldn't gauge his game but this is the first time I was playing against him so may be next time I will beat him," Bhat said.
